A smirk pulled at the corner of Maxon’s mouth where he had me backed against the wall. “You act like I have some other place to be.”
Redness flushed. “Don’t act like you don’t have plenty of people to entertain you.” I hoped it didn’t sound like bitterness, like scorn, but it was hard to keep that from quivering in my voice.
He moved even closer and planted his hands over my head. So close I could feel need oozing from his skin, his breath on my face, blueberries and ice. “There’s no one else, Izzy. No one I want. No one I can’t breathe without. It’s always been you.”
Desire pulled at my stomach, knottin’ it up tight. I pressed my thighs together, and he caught it, scenting my need.
Hot air puffed out of his nostrils like the dragon he was, and I was shivering. Shaking like a leaf.
He moved his hand, slowly, watching me carefully as he dropped it down and placed it on my bare thigh.
Right up under the skirt of my dress.
The breath left me on a staggered gasp. Tingles flashed. Flames licking and lapping.
My body begged to come alive under his touch.
“Izzy, baby,” he murmured, and oh God, I sagged, my back pressed to the wall. Hooked. Knowing how fast this man could make me fall.
Those eyes pinned me, keeping me in place, while his hand squeezed my leg.
He edged down, nose brushing mine, a soft inhale between his lips.
Breathing me in.
Then he pressed his mouth to mine. Featherlight.
Didn’t matter how soft it was.
Lightning streaked. A crack of thunder in the air.
He pressed our mouths tighter, lips closed, just this persistent pressure that felt so right.
A promise.
An apology.
Sensation rushed through my body.
This old love trying to bust free.
To climb out.
Reach for him.
Because I’d wanted it. Wanted to be with him so badly.
I whimpered.
“Izzy,” he murmured at my lips.
“Maxon,” I whispered back.
That was it.

 When I read The Ruthless Gentleman I fell fit Hayden Wolf and I was dying to meet his loving, caring and very protective younger brother Landon. Louise came thru with my wishes and pairing her with Skylar is a double win for me!!

Landon has had a career in the British Special Force and then he opened up his own security business. He recently sold it and has made enough money for him to not work. But, that’s not him. Landon has been offered another job with the British government. 

Landon’s looking to finally take a vacation before his next mission starts. Until he runs into an old work buddy. His friend needs Landon’s help. His first instinct is nope. Until he hears there’s civilians lives at risk. All he’s gotta do is go undercover as a junior deck hand on a yacht and relay the guys daily activities of who he’s seeing and where he’s coming and going too. It should’ve been easy as cake. Except when he walks onto the boat and Skylar is there. The only girl whoever made him want a second night with before she kicked him out. 

Skylar doesn’t do relationships. Relaying on a guy will never be her. That doesn’t mean she’s sworn off men completely. Whenever she gets an itch she scratches it. Landon made her feel things she’s never felt before.  

When he walks onto the ship she works on she knows she’s screwed. She can’t get away from him, he’s everywhere she goes. Her best friend keeps trying to get Skylar to enjoy her summer with him. Have a summertime fling. 

Skylar and Landon  finally give into their intense chemistry. They start to enjoy themselves and they start sharing things they’ve never shared with anybody. But, Landon’s still hasn’t told Skylar why he’s on the yacht and Skylar is still running from her past. When she goes out for dinner with her friend and he’s having dinner with his brother little do they know they’re going to the same place, same people. Then everything falls apart. 

This was an amazing story!!! I loved both Landon and Skylar more now than I did before. Really wish I can get more from them, Hayden & Avery. I can’t help it I’m greedy lol. Can’t wait for Louise’s next release already.

“Did I tell you how beautiful you look tonight?”
For some reason, Landon’s compliment didn’t make me wince the way some men’s comments did. Everything about him was different and it had thrown me off kilter. His warm breath on my neck shouldn’t have made me shiver. He shouldn’t ease the ever-present knot in my stomach or have me wanting to slide my hand into his as we walked. He shouldn’t make me feel safe. “You didn’t.”
“Well, you do. Not that it’s any surprise.”
“Because you’re a gentleman who prefers blondes,” I said, nudging him gently with my elbow, trying to lighten the mood.
He pulled in a breath and scraped his hand through his hair. “I’m beginning to think I’m a man who just prefers you.”
I focused on the cobbled street in front of us. “Me?” Had I been mistaken about the ex-girlfriend in town or the girl on Tinder? I tried to hold my breath to ensure I heard his reply.
“Yeah, you. I like you. More and more.”
My stomach swooped, and I tried to think of a response. My head was telling me to run. Far away. I didn’t want to fall for anyone. I’d worked hard to stay single all these years—to keep away from temptation. But now, temptation right in front of me, I found myself rooted to the spot, wanting to know what was next. “Okay.”
“Okay?” he asked.
I nodded, unsure of what to say. Unsure of how I felt. I knew I found Landon attractive.
I knew I liked him too. But I also knew that I’d been single all these years for a reason.

Oh-Em-Gee!!! Ever since Resistance I’ve wanted Dr. Kline AKA Bex’s story. How’d she become Defiance’s doctor on call. I was stoked to find out her and Chains story was next. 

Chains almost didn’t survive his childhood. The only reason he did was because his best friend saved him by sacrificing himself. Since that night his friend haunts his dreams. 

Chains met Bex right after escaping his real life nightmare. Bex and her parents took him in and made him a part of their family. The Kline’s blood might not run thru his veins, but they’re his parents. Him and Bex might look at each other as bro/sis the feelings are everything but. 

Chains has been in love with her since the beginning.  But, he doesn’t wanna loose her and her parents if Bex as to turn him down or if her parents didn’t approve of them together. When Chains gets hurt and Bex comes to the clubhouse and gives him garbage for it, Chains can’t help himself and he kisses her. He was shocked when she kissed him back and then stormed off. Chains doesn’t wanna loose his family. But, before he can 100% figure out what’s going on with them he spots the guy who haunts his dreams every night. Chains will do anything to get his friend out. He’s just not sure how deep his friend is in. What’s going to happen with him and Bex. 

Bex knew the minute she met Ty AKA Chains he was special. She’s always had feelings for him but never wanted to cross that line. Bex became a Dr bc Chains has always been accident prone. When he told her he wanted to join The Defiance MC, she told him if he joined so was she. She’d be their Dr so she’ll always be able to be there whenever he needed her.  

Bex was completely caught off guard when Chains kissed her and she stormed off. They’ve always had chemistry but never crossed that line.  Bex has always wondered if they should’ve. 

When Bex gets a call from the MC that Chains had gotten hurt again she goes running. She’ll never not show up when they call. Things between her and Chains have changed and are tense. Bex knows how Chains’s brain works, with his night terrors and he’s afraid to loose her and her parents. 

While they’re trying to figure out exactly what’s next for them, Bex finds out he’s going after his old friend. Bex doesn’t agree with his decision but trusts him. 

Bex wants what’s best for Chains and the brothers, old lady’s and the club girls of The Defiance MC. Even if that means getting up close and personal with the guy who haunts Chains dreams every single night. 


This story was so much better then I imagined. And, I knew I was going to love it. The guys and girls from Defiance are all in my favorite read list to begin with. The love and respect  these two had for each other was so high and beautiful. Just when you thought this author couldn’t top herself and you couldn’t fall in love with her writing and storytelling more than you already do. Be ready!!! The next couple better hurry up and pop up on my kindle already. I’m going thru Defiance MC withdrawal already.
