✯Release Review w/Giveaway✯At Her Own Risk by Rachael Duncan

Title: At Her Own Risk
Author: Rachael Duncan
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release: August 14, 2017

Sex.
That’s all it was supposed to be. No strings attached, no feelings, no heartache.
But if I thought Sean Riley would be content having only parts of me, I was dead wrong. His persistence wore me down and I found myself in the one situation I was trying to avoid.
Little does he know a life with me will lead to nothing but disappointment and heartbreak. He’s a good man and deserves everything I can’t give him. Not because I don’t want to, but because I’m unable.
Pushing him away in the beginning was to protect me, now I’m trying to protect him as I gear up for the fight of my life.
A fight I could lose.
Getting into a relationship was my risk, but as things get worse, I’m not the only one who will have something to lose.
I just hope it’s worth it.

5 Exhilarating Stars

This is not an easy review to write! I literally just finished this book and I have many emotions because of this story! Let me start by saying that this must be on your to-read book list!
In the beginning, I was not impressed. I thought this was another story that was like the well known 50 Shades of Grey. But being that those books were so successful, it isn't hard to see why authors try to mimic that success. Sean seemed like the typical male character: successful, attractive, and a dick. And Paige is a classic strong female character. She is independent, hard working, and she respects herself to not let herself get hurt. But by the second or third chapter, I began to realize that I was wrong about Sean and I began to root for him.
Sean and Paige begin their relationship by a one night stand, so to say, however, they know each other. But Sean is secretly pining away for her, but masks his feelings with awkward cockiness that makes Paige not want to associate with him, until she is forced to. She is interviewing for a job in his father's company when Sean is the one selected to interview her and the relationship takes off from there.
Once Sean and Paige finally reach a comfortable and loving point in their relationship, Paige finds out devastating news that no person ever wants to hear. This forces Paige to attempt to push Sean away even though she desperately needs him to help her get through it. Will she push him away for good, or does Sean pull through and help Paige get through the hardest trial of her life? You must read it to find out!
Apparently there are other stories by this author that has the same characters as this novel and I will be looking up these stories! Rachael Duncan has a wonderful writing style that makes it easy to read as well as covers both the male and female points of perspective, which makes for a very well rounded story!

“Come back to me,” I finally plead. She looks into my eyes and there’s so much pain I can’t stand it. “I don’t know how.” Her voice is strained as she tries to hold back the tears. “Let me help you.” I cup her face and she leans into it. “I just want to stop feeling this way and I can’t.” A tear falls down her cheek. “Like what?” She pauses and says, “Empty.”

Rachael Duncan is an Army wife and mother to two beautiful girls. She grew up in Nashville, Tennessee and went off to graduate from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in political science. With initial plans to work in politics, she moved to Washington, D.C. and worked on Capitol Hill for a House Representative. After a short time, she realized it wasn't for her and began pursuing other careers until she started writing. She's the author of Tackled by Love, The Lies and Truth Series, and Hopeless Vows.
