Kennedy Fox has done it to me again. I fell in love with them when they came out with their Checkmate Duet series. When we were introduced to Courtney Bishop we learned she had a bunch of brothers who work on their parents ranch and I knew I needed to get more of them.
Alex Bishop is the youngest outta the family. He works on his families ranch. One day him and his brothers will take it over. Alex is a joker, a hard worker and a typical playboy. He doesn’t do relationships. But, he’s not a player. Alex tells them right from the first moment that he’s only in it for a night. But, Alex’s a perfect gentleman like his momma taught him to be. When his best friend talks him into going with him to Florida he was expecting to party and enjoy his time. He wasn’t expecting to take one look into her eyes and have his entire life change. Alex was planning on just two weeks with her. So when it was time to leave he wanted more time with her. River completely blindsided Alex in every way possible good.
River Lancaster is a pediatric nurse. Her life wasn’t easy. Ever since she lost her sister when she was young things haven’t been the same. River loves her job. She gets invested in all her patients and their families. River found out six months ago that her boyfriend was actually married. River works all the time. Her friend talks her into going to Florida with them for two weeks. River was looking forward to relaxing in the sun, reading her book and just enjoying doing nothing. Then, she met Alex and everything changed. She loves spending time with Alex. Even though she keeps telling herself it’s for two weeks only, she can’t help getting attached to Alex. River knows she’s going to miss Alex but she’s afraid to say it out loud. When they don’t get the chance to say goodbye she takes it as a sign that this is the way it’s suppose to be. Until her life changes and River knows she needs to find Alex. No matter what he says she needs to go and talk to him.
Man, I loved this story. River was hard to like at times. My heart broke for her when it came to her sister. But, after I’ve dated my fair share of losers I definitely understood why she was the way she was. Alex on the other hand. Man oh man. He’s the perfect southern cowboy with all the gentleman manners and he’s the perfect amount of hard rough and naughty. He also doesn’t do anything out of obligation. Alex does what he wants and what he wants is River.
Once I started this book I couldn’t put it down. The bishop family is one I’m hooked on and I’m soooooo looking forward to the rest of them. Whenever one of them was around I was laughing. And, that epilogue had me crying from laughing. I can’t wait for the next Bishop brother.
