From an award-winning author and master of world building comes the thrilling third book in the Moonchild series, featuring a future fueled by greed and corruption, where airships rule the skies and coal mines have been turned into prisons…
Nearly a year after Asher Kimura swooped into Athens and saved Scarlett and her friends, the group has settled into a routine that almost feels like a real life. But when an altercation on the street turns deadly, they’re forced to head out west to lay low until things have settled down.
After a lifetime in the polluted world the Luddites have created, Scarlett is looking forward to seeing the sun in all its splendor for the very first time. Too bad the heat, dust, and utter lawlessness of the west leave a lot to be desired. But she’s determined to enjoy both her time with Asher and the break from the constant threat of living in Columbus.
It doesn’t take long for the group to realize that corruption knows no borders. Drugs, slavery, and forced prostitution are only the tip of the iceberg when Asher comes face to face with the demons from his past, leaving Scarlett to wonder if he’ll make it out in one piece.
With new characters and a fresh setting, the past meets the future in the exciting third book in the Moonchild series. Readers rave about the “captivating setting, riveting plot, and heart-pounding action” in the Moonchild series, calling it a “much needed breath of fresh air in the world of YA fantasy.”

✯✯5 Redeeming Stars!!!✯✯

This is the third book in Kate L. Mary’s Moonchild Series and it was just as action packed and nonstop action as the first two. We learn so much more about Asher in this book and meet even more people that we had previously.

It’s been a year since Asher rescued Scarlett and her friends in Athens and they’ve been living in Columbus. Scarlett has given into her feeling for Asher, her and Paget have squashed their beef and are slowly becoming friends, Rory’s about to become a mom and Scarlett finally considers Columbus home. Which shocks her as much as it does everyone else.

When Scarlett is propositioned by Layla she’s put in a tough position. Layla wants Scarlett to take her to the bar they all go too bc Dex won’t take her. She loves Dex and wants to prove she can live in his pirate life. Scarlett reluctantly agrees hoping she won’t get into too much trouble later.

After Scarlett and Layla are attacked and they have to defend themselves, Layla’s life will never be the same. Her face was scanned and now she’s on the wanted posters. Scarlett feels terrible and Dex isn’t going easy on her. Asher comes up with a solution for the moment.

Asher and Rock have a friend named Cullen out west whose always asking them to come visit. It’s perfect place for Layla to lay low for awhile. Jack agrees and on their way they go.

When they get out West things aren’t lining up. If Scarlett thought the sun and the heat was her only problem she was wrong. Cullen def tricked Asher on coming.

Cullen needs help and he knows the best guy to help him is Asher. A hotshot from Columbus has come and buying up all the businesses. There’s more and more people addicted to drugs and people going missing. There’s definitely something wrong.

Asher and Scarlett go home looking to get backup. Keith introduces them to Creed, who agrees to help and bring twenty other people. Asher is all for it and Scarlett has her guard up until otherwise.

Scarlett, Asher, Creed and Cullen all go investigate what is going on and things were worse than they originally thought.

Asher’s past is not in the past anymore. When Asher, Scarlett and their friends shut down the auctions they thought things would calm down. But, Asher is now face to face with something he thought was done. The pits. Where boys are sold, then taught to fight and put into the pit to fight. If you die you loose and the boy still standing wins.

Asher might’ve escaped but the pits have never left him. Asher’s on a mission to safe everybody being held against their will, destroy the pit and kill everybody involved. It’ll be his Retribution.

Scarlett’s never seen this side of Asher before. He’s so conflicted but as long as he’s got Scarlett next to him he knows he’ll survive. There’s also Creed whose got a story as well that has him invested in taking out the pits for good.

Scarlett also can’t forget about Blake. Asher’s father. The guy who sent her to the mines and has some sick fascination with Scarlett.

I flew through this story. Like the first two books once I started I couldn’t put it down till I finished. Asher and Scarlett are still amazing together. They’re there for each other regardless of what’s going around them. They don’t run off if one has an attitude about something. When Scarlett finally tells Dex and Asher the entire story about her past with Blake. Asher was there, never leaving her side.

Even with all the darkness surrounding them and their friends they put each other first. Creed had me worried for most of this book. I definitely wasn’t expecting what his backstory was going to be.

I can’t wait for the next part of this story. After everything Scarlett, Asher and their friends went through they deserve to be able to breathe and not have to look over their shoulders 24/7. I’m hoping Blake gets what he deserves and that Scarlett and Asher getting the revenge they are overdue  for!!!

Kate L. Mary has such an amazing imagination. I want in her head even for just a little while. She writes stories that I want to see on the big screen. Even though I couldn’t and wouldn’t want to see this be real, I’d hope I’d be as brave as the women she writes and find a guy as amazing as the ones she finds.  As usual I’m extremely excited for her next release.
