Review for Dangerous Ally by Michelle Grey

Goodreads Synopsis:

Lacey Jordan is expecting dinner, and hopefully, an engagement announcement. Not her own, of course. After two serious screw-ups, she's all but sworn off relationships. When she arrives at her father's house to celebrate his future happiness though, he's nowhere to be found. As the hours pass, the worst scenarios Lacey's mind can conjure send her rushing into action. However, reality proves even more frightening as she discovers that her father's recent scientific breakthrough is one that people would kill for. To make matters worse, the source of the information is the one person she'd hoped to never see again. Caleb Mansfield, her father's former protege and her former lover, needs Lacey's cooperation, and the very trust he'd stolen years before. But Lacey can't be certain if Caleb's working with her or against her. Running out of time, she has nowhere else to turn. As the trail leading to her father narrows, Lacey becomes a target, risking her life to save him. Too late, she understands that with Caleb back in her life, she's risking her heart as well.

Stefanie's Review:

3.5~4 Stars

I was given this book to read for a honest review.  This book was def a slow start for me. But, once it picked up it def kept my attention.

The story begins with Lacey heading to her dad's house. Her father's house is empty except for his cell phone. Which is odd because they're suppose to have dinner there with her dad's girlfriend Mona. When her dad doesn't show up it's obvious he's been kidnapped.

The next day her dad's cell phone ring's and it's Caleb Mansfield. Lacey's ex-boyfriend & close friend of her father's. Her dad sent him the finished files of his work. Caleb learns that Bill Jordan is missing and gets on the 1st flight to help Lacey find her father.

The last thing Lacey wants is Caleb back in her life. He broke her heart years ago. Last thing Lacey wants or needs is the sexy Caleb back in her life. Unfortunately, she realizes rather quickly that Caleb knows more about her father's work then she does. Lacey agrees to let Caleb help her without letting him get to close.

Caleb realizes how much he loves Lacey. He also knows that he hurt Lacey very badly. Lacey doesn't trust him. And, he doesn't blame her. But, he'll do ANYTHING to win her trust & her back!!!

Lacey and Caleb learn quickly that her father's kidnapping is because of his work. And, that Lacey is at risk too. Caleb vows not to leave her side until her father is found & the kidnappers are behind bars. Lacey is def  not liking the idea of Caleb being around 24/7.

We see as the story goes that there are a lot of people that work with Bill & Caleb that could be the kidnappers. But, you'll see that one by one every person you thought it could be.... Isn't. You'll also see Lacey at the worst, most scariest time in her life still staying strong. She starts helping Sam. Her employee at her store. Sam is pregnant and is scared. Lacey helps her weigh her options on having & raising her baby. Or finding a good family and giving her baby up for adoption.

What I really liked about this story was Caleb and Lacey's relationship. I loved how they still loved each other after all these years. And, no matter how hard Lacey fought the feelings for Caleb. Deep down she  loved him. She just didn't trust him. But, she def keep's telling herself that she needs to learn to trust him. I really loved how caring and protective Caleb is of Lacey and everybody else he cares about. He gave Lacey all the help in the world that she needed. With giving her the space she needed to learn to trust him again.

I really wish the story with Sam would of had a actual ending. I felt like it was left open and not finished. For me, it really didn't have  that much suspense to the story. It was more of a love story. But, it was a good story with a great ending. Michelle Grey's next book look's great as well.

"You were made to see and believe in the good in people. That's part of who you are, but sometimes our greatest strength is also our greatest weakness. Believing in others, trusting others, can open you up for heartache."

"It's the waiting I hate the most. I just want something to happen. Something we  can act on."

"Pretty simple really. I thought we were in love. I was wrong. I thought we were going to spend our lives together. Wrong again. He left and that was it."
