Synopsis
Holly James is trying to move on with her life, but it’s not easy. She can’t stand to be touched by anyone, not even her own family. She is a lost broken shell of the person that she used to be. She realizes that shutting everyone out is much easier then opening up and letting someone hurt her.
Drew Walker is no prince charming. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself and has no intention of changing. He loves the life of excitement and entitlement that comes with being the lead singer of a band, and has no plans to get tied down anytime soon.
When these two meet there is an immediate chemistry. The thing that surprises Holly is that she can tolerate his touch. He makes her feel like herself once again and gives her the freedom and comfort she has been desperate to find. On the other hand he is self-centered, egotistical, and everything that she should stay away from.
What happens when the one person who can save you might also be the person who can break you?
“There was something about Drew, but I had no idea what it was. He was self-centered, cocky, and definitely not prince charming. Maybe that’s why I liked him though. Maybe I didn’t want to be saved by the handsome prince. Maybe I wanted to be corrupted by the evil king.”
**Breaking Free is for mature audiences only—strong language, and explicit sexual content are apparent.**
Excerpt
I open the door and there he is. Drew Walker. It’s ridiculous that I only know his name because of Facebook. In my defense, I did ask him, but he pounced on me like an animal in heat. He hasn’t said anything to me and his penetrating gaze is starting to make me squirm.
“Why are you here?”
He smiles. “I told you that I was coming back for you.”
“I told you not to.”
He walks toward me and I back up until I am pressed against the wall behind me. Coming closer to me, he kicks the door shut with his foot. “I never got to answer your question, though.” I suck in a deep breath, overwhelmed by his proximity to me. “Ask me again.” Ask him what? I can barely think with him this close to me. He reaches up and threads his hand through my hair, grasping my neck and making me look up at him. “Ask. Me. Again.”
Shit. What the hell did I ask him? I suddenly remember and my body heats up. “What do you want from me?”
He’s staring at me with hooded eyes. “I want to own you in every physical way possible.” His mouth crashes against mine, his tongue immediately entering my mouth and overpowering me in every way. I melt into him, my legs too unsteady to support me. His hands move down, cupping my butt, and lifting me up as I wrap my legs around his waist. At this point, I’m ready to throw my morals out the window.

5 stars!
Drew Walker is pure fucking perfection. Yes, he was a cocky, arrogant ass… but you couldn't help but fall in love with his character. Who knew that big bad Mr. Rockstar would turn out to be so completely lovable?
Alexis Noelle did an amazing job of grabbing your attention right from the beginning. Many times when a book starts out on such a strong note, parts can tend to lack in the wow factor as the story progresses. That was NOT the case with Breaking Free. From page one, all the way to "the end", the intensity captured you and held you prisoner. Did things between Drew and Holly progress at an extremely rapid pace?… YES. However, it worked. Every little piece about this book worked and fit together perfectly.
Drew is one of the most aggravating, make you want to pull your hair out, men. Many times my jaw would drop open and I couldn't believe that he had just said/done certain things. When he said that he always gets what he wants, he really meant it. If you have not yet read this book, you really MUST! If for no other reason that to read the t-shirt scene. I nearly peed my pants from laughing so hard.
I loved how the book was a standalone, yet it was a spinoff which gave you more insight into one of the smaller characters from Alexis' Guarded Hearts series. Being a huge fan of that series, I have to say that Alexis really knocked my socks off with Breaking Free, and it easily… hands down… became my favorite book of hers to date. All of the previous characters made an appearance, yet you were not completely lost as to what was going on if you had not yet read the other books.
The immediate connection between Holly and Drew was indescribable, and it only burned brighter as the story progressed. After Holly's kidnapping, she was unable to stand being touched. Not by her brother, family, or closest friends. But when she meets Drew Walker (lead singer of a popular rock band), all that changes. He is the ONLY person since that incident who is able to touch her without her feeling both emotional and physical pain. His touch does not send her into a downward spiral of panic, but rather ignites something deep inside of her which she thought had been lost for good. Both of them are battling their own demons from the past, and they find an unexpected connection and support in each other. The two of them simultaneously clash and mesh and the result is absolutely explosive. I wanted to both punch Drew in the face, and hug him at the same time. Their relationship is a ticking time bomb which in order to keep it from detonating, they must learn to let go of the past and help each other to move forward.
I cannot begin to express enough how much I loved Drew and Holly's book. I am praying to anything and everything that is out there to please please please give me more Drew fucking Walker! He is just too damn sexy to not keep his story going. I would absolutely love if there was another book in which we got to see more into the mind of Drew. There seems like there is so much more to him that needs to be told.
