Danielle has done it to me AGAIN!!! She has finally answered all my questions that I've had since the first book Bird of Prey. But, now I have a whole list of new questions that need answered. Really, Danielle!! This is probably my new fav of the series. I think because of Vincent AKA Josh. I've loved him since the very beginning. But, I definitely was not prepared for what was coming.
We start off in the present time where Polliannah Got Married. Vincent, Semya & Polli just got back in town. Vincent heads over to Skins his bar. Semya gets a feeling and runs after him. Next thing Polli see's is Skins blowing up & Semya going flying. Did Vincent go in??
While at the hospital we get the flashbacks from their time in Hawaii when they met Vincent. Back then he was known as Josh Heinz.
Vincent is a FREGG (Fenton Reginald Edgerton Giadi Gaumont) operative. They basically take out the big bad gangsters. Without the help of police. They sometimes run into them though. They are all pretty wealthy and don't have to worry about much of anything. That is until there's a hit put out on Vincent. Now, Vincent's father, best friend and everybody else are urging him into hiding. 2-3yrs tops!! He must do deep under cover. New name. New job. Everything!!
"I never felt this kind of passion for anyone in my life. This out of control...I like contol and order"
Just before he's ready to fully agree 110% to it. They find out they botched the last job. Vincent vets his dad to agree to let him go to Hawaii and finish it before he disappears.
While in Hawaii Vincent decides it's time to start getting himself into the whole "Josh Heinz" thing. That's where he meets the sexy detective sleuth Semya Slotin. They have instant connection. Semya seduce's him.
Semya is looking for her friend Autumn who's gone missing. Polli & Semya quickly start looking into where & who took Autumn. Vincent starts helping them. Which throws red flags up for both sides. Semya & Polli know "Josh" isn't telling them the whole truth about himself. Polli lets Josh know right off the bat she does NOT like him. And, to be very careful with Semya. Vincent & everybody at FREGG can not figure out how the girls at 10 steps ahead of them at every turn.
Vincent finally puts the pieces of the puzzle together. He realizes her friend Autumn is in severe danger. It's a old case of his father from years ago that everyone thought was taken care of. If they don't get her back soon. She'll disappear forever.
After we learn the past we are bouncing into the present. Which I really loved how Danielle went back & forth from past and present. It was done beautifully.
"You're my everything Semya Slotin, my home, my love, my life and the mother of my child. Do you know how much I love you?"
The present left me so many unanswered questions. Damn!! We find out how her biological mother and adopted mother did things when she was younger. We also see her adopted mother calling Vincent's father throwing out ultimatums. Who knew that Semya's mothers and Vincent's dad all knew each other!! Is that the main reason he didn't want Vincent dating her? Does he know something his son didn't??!!
This book has so much in it. I really, really loved Semya & Vincent (Josh) fall in love. Their instant attraction was hot. When they were madly in love was even hotter!! Semya and Vincent have spent everyday and every night together for years.
Now, since the fire Semya is alone. Everybody is telling her one thing. But, Semya being Semya knows that Vincent is in hiding until it all dies down. Semya being Semya does what she does best. Gets her board out and is on a mission to find the only man that she's ever loved and bring him home. Home to her & their little family.
I loved watching Vincent go from a hard ass. He was by the books FREGG operative. Who wore a suit and tie 24/7. Hating to have to change that for Josh. As Josh his hair was longer, wore jeans and was covered in tattoos. He went from a straight bad ass. To a bad ass in love. It was really nice to see!!
I can not wait to see what's next for them in Stages & Thieves. Because, I am not ready to say goodbye to any of them. ESPECIALLY Vincent!! You hear me Danielle???
