After 12 years, 4 months and 1 and 1/2 weeks of marriage, his wife packs up and leaves with their daughter. So he writes an Indie novel. And it becomes a bestseller. Well, sort of.
His fame brings him the lifestyle of a rockstar, and he has the fan mail (i.e. female undergarments, probably clean) to prove it.
But seeing his fame, his wife suddenly believes in marriage counseling. Their homework: to create something beautiful for each other.
So he writes Our Story, his literary secret-weapon that will win his wife back. But in the process he discovers that true love is more than just ticking the right boxes on a checklist, it starts with.....well.....}i{

Well, Non Friction was a totally different type of story than what I was used to reading, and it certainly did hold my attention. Where is was not one of my absolute favorite books I have read, it was an entertaining and interesting story which I am glad I read. This is not your typical romance, and is not all lovey dovey/mushy. The story is on the comical side and had me laughing in quite a few parts which was refreshing.
The characters each had their ups and downs. The main male, Morgan, was a pretty funny dude with some of his quirks and outlooks on things. Numerous times I was cracking up at some of the ridiculous things he would say such as:
"She had these smile lines around her mouth that promised she'd make an amazingly hot senior citizen, the kind of gal you'd just pray would have her walker break down before siesta time, and you'd have to give her a ride home on your electric scooter."
When I read this line, I was almost picturing a scene from the show Jackass where Johnny Knocksville dressed up like the old man and was doing all sorts of raunchy things. But his character really did start to annoy me at times. No matter how awful his wife treated him, he just could NOT grasp the concept that there was no way in hell his marriage was going to survive… or that his wife really did despise him and was not just confused. There were times I wanted to shake him and slap some sense into him. Maybe throw him in front of a moving bus?
Then there was Emma, she came off as a very sweet girl who was infatuated with Morgan (despite being in a crappy marriage as well). The way they "met" and first started talking was a little odd (she was a fan of his book and sent him a pair of undies in the mail lol), so I did kind of expect her to end up being a bit of a crazy stalker lol (but she actually wasn't… I don't think). The way she did keep popping up or randomly knowing certain info about Morgan was a little creepy at times, especially since there was no explanation as to how she got this information to begin with.
The only character that had no redeeming qualities about them was Morgan's wife (or Princess Whore as she was commonly referred to as). She was just a grade A bitch, and for seemingly no reason. Are there seriously people like this in real life? I mean, I have encountered some nasty people in my life, but this woman needed some elephant tranquilizers or something to calm her down lol. All she would do is put Morgan down and curse him out. I have never hated a character more than her, and I am pretty sure that is what the author wanted lol. I really could NOT understand how Morgan could even consider wanting to salvage his marriage with this woman.
I actually could see this book as a movie. One of those exaggerated comedies that has you cracking up at the ridiculousness of it all. You know, one that is simply made to make you laugh with how far fetched it can be. If you go into reading this expecting it to be like watching "the notebook" then you will be highly disappointed However, if you go into it expecting it to be like watching "scary movie", you would be pretty happy with the outcome. While the story isn't exactly believable in many aspects, it is very entertaining to read, and I would def be interested in reading a sequel if one ever came out.
Morgan Parker is the pen name for a shy and introverted banker. He currently divides his time between Toronto, Canada and his imagination. When he isn’t writing or working with clients or relaxing at Balzac’s with a medium non-fat cappuccino, Morgan Parker enjoys spending time with his family. And sleeping, preferably on a bed (the left side) but depending on the day, he can pretty much curl up anywhere. No, he is not currently accepting applications for cuddling partners.
