One
story. Two couples.
I fell in
love with a man who didn’t exist.
What
started out as romance ended in hell.
His words
turned to razor blades.
His
kisses converted to fists.
His
embrace became my cage.
His body
transformed into a weapon, stealing parts of me until ultimately….
I broke.
I hated
him.
My sole
job in life became to protect our daughter.
I wasn’t
sure I’d ever escape the prison he’d skillfully crafted from my fears.
Until the
day our savior arrived.
This is
the story of how I escaped the man who thought he owned me.
The
transfer of my life and my family.
✯✯5 Emotional Stars!!!✯✯
Holy crap! This was such a fantastic book. A fantastic story. Aly Martinez is still in my top favorite authors! Every single one of her books are on my favorite read list. She's that good. Now, if you haven't read Retrieval then STOP reading this and go buy that first and read it.
We pick up exactly where we left off. Roman and Heath are saving Clare from getting killed from her (enter bad names here)husband Walter.
Clare can not believe that her life has ended up like this. Walter was nothing like he was when she met him. He's kept her prisoner in their own home. The man has a serious hand problem and insists on using her as his punching bag. She's surrounded by bodyguards. The only time she's allowed out is when she goes to the gym. The only good thing in her life is her daughter Tessa. She'll do anything to keep her safe.
Heath will do anything to keep Clare and Tessa safe and away from her evil husband. He's gotten too close to her. But, he wouldn't change it for anything. Even if it cost him everything. He'll do anything to keep them safe.
Until they can get Walter, Heath and Roman both agree to work together to keep Clare and Tessa safe. They move in with Roman and Elisabeth. Talk about WHAT!? Yes, there was Roman, Elisabeth, Clare, Heath, Tessa and a few bodyguards all sharing the same house.
It was very hard on the 4 of them. They all wanted Clare and Tessa safe. But, that's not the only thing hanging over their heads. Tessa.. Who's her mother. Who's her father. All they know is they love Tessa and would do anything to keep her safe. They even start caring about each other.
OMG I loved this book!! Even though this duet was one story. The way Aly wrote it was AM-AZING!! In Retrieval in was mostly Roman and Elisabeth's POV with Clare's in the perfect spots. This book was no different. It was mostly Heath and Clare's POV. But, at the perfect timing and when the story needed it, Roman and Elisabeth's POV was there. It was honestly perfectly written!
Clare was so strong. I honestly don't know how she dealt with not only living and dealing with Walter and his BS. But, then trying to keep her daughter safe. If that wasn't bad enough she finds out her daughter might not be biologically hers. And, being afraid she'd loose Tessa. I honestly don't know how I'd deal with it. But, she handled it!
Heath. Man, what a guy! He fell for Clare instantly and did everything to not act on his feelings. It could've cost them. Clare, Tessa and him could've suffered from it. His task was to keep eyes on them and get info from her. Once he was able to get them away from Walter all bets were off. He was so protective, an alpha man and no holds barred when it meant keeping his girls safe. But, with them he was a caring, a teddybear and loving.
I read this book in maybe 2 days. If that. Half the time while I was reading this I was holding my breathe BC I wasn't prepared for what was coming next. The other half I was praying it would work out OK. All in all I'm not kidding. This book/books is worth so much more then 5 stars! Aly is fantastic and I plan on following her and reading her books for a long time.
RETRIEVAL is available and brings readers the
first part of this emotional second chance romance.
