I met Sarah Kate Erickson when I was 21 years old. I was lucky enough to keep her for seven years before a tragic accident stole her from me. She didn’t die, but sometimes I think it would have been easier if she had.
I lived in a haze for those four years after the accident. Catering to her every need, even though she hated the very sight of my face. I tried to hold on to her and the future that we were supposed to build together. But you can’t hold on to someone that doesn’t exist anymore.
It wasn’t until I met Jesse Addison, a barista at the local coffee shop, that I realized I didn’t just lose Sarah that tragic night, I lost myself as well. Jesse taught me how to let go of the past and learn to love again. But what happens when your past haunts your present and the woman you used to love refuses to accept the woman you can’t live without?

"Shall we make a little bet?" I ask, twirling my thumbs like an evil madman. "Aren't you sick of losing yet?" She laughs so hard at her own joke, she almost rolls out of the chair. Her reaction alone is enough to make me laugh right along with her. This girl is drunk...and beautiful. And drunk. And sexy as hell. And drunk. And so very fuckable. Did I mention drunk? She isn't in the danger zone, where she is going to be hating her very existence tomorrow. She's in that loose-lipped-say-things-that-will-make-you-cringe-the-next-day stage. I would be lying if I said I wasn't enjoying the hell out of seeing her in this state. Jesse always seems to have a filter when she talks to me. It's as if, she analyzes every word in her mind twelve times before actually spitting out a sentence. Since she started drinking, she hasn't stopped talking. She has officially made the leap from best friend’s little sister, to woman I want to fuck. Jesus, what the hell am I saying? Am I drunk too? "So, is that a yes or no to the bet?" I smile, glancing down and catch a glimpse of her peaked chilled nipples. "You cold, Jess?" I ask, nodding down at her nipples noticeably showing thorough her skimpy excuse for a dress. I watch her eyes travel down her own body and her cheeks immediately redden. Oh shit! I really am drunk! Why the fuck would I say that to her? Better yet, when the hell did I lose my filter tonight? Oh God, what else have I said to her without thinking? I frantically try to think of a way to moonwalk out of this conversation. She's uncomfortable, and I'm mortified. We both know it too. It's written all over our faces, but in our drunken states, neither one of us can think of anything to say.
Meet Aly Martinez~
I’m a 32 year old wife and stay at home mom to four kids under the age of five, including a set of twins. My life is crazy, which is probably why I drink entirely too much wine. Oh who am I kidding, I had a love affair with wine long before the kids came along. I was born and raised in Savannah Georgia, but we recently moved to Chicago. Let me tell you, this southern girl was not ready for the cold weather up here! I’m an avid reader, but I haven’t always been that way. A few years ago my sister loaned me her Nook Color, and it changed my life forever. In the span of about two years, I read over 500 books. My newfound love of reading led me to start a book blog with two of my best friends. (Insert shameless plug here: Through WZ Bookends, I've had the opportunity to meet some of the most amazing authors, bloggers, and readers out there. Now that I have taken the leap into writing my own book, they’ve all shown me endless amounts of encouragement and support. While driving home from Walmart one day in late October, a story embedded itself in my head and would not let go. It spiraled out of control until I finally opened my laptop and started writing. This journey has been a wild ride filled with tears, hand cramps, and tons of laughs. I love company, so follow me at one of the social links below and join me aboard this crazy train!

If you want a guy meets girl falls in love, gets married, has kids and lives happily ever after story..  This is NOT that story. When I 1st read the synopsis to the story I knew I just had to read it. I had a feeling it was going to be a  different story then what I was use too. But, I wasn't prepared for what I was getting  myself into. I can not begin to tell you how good this story is. There is so much different emotions going on in this. One minute I'm dying with laughter, the next I was crying.. Well, more like balling my eyes out.

Brett & Sarah meet at a bar. They fall head over heal in love with each other. Their best friends Caleb & Manda also fall in love with each other. Brett & Sarah get married. Thing's are great. Brett & Caleb are police officers. When they aren't working. The 4 of them are out hanging out and enjoying their life to the fullest. Until, the night that changed everything.

"Sarah, don't do this. Damn It! Stay with me." I reach over and gently brush the blood soaked hair off her forehead…..

4 years later Brett & Caleb are  still trying to pick up the pieces of their lives...

That's when we meet Jesse. She works at the coffee shop where the guys go and get their breakfast every morning. Jesse has such a crush on Brett. Every morning they flirt with each other like crazy. It's really cute to read. She finally gets the guts up to ask him out. Before he has the chance to say No. Caleb answers for him & he's forced to go.

"News Flash: I'm married!"

"You might still be married on paper, but you and I both know you haven't been married for a long time."

When they have their 1st date Brett dropped a bomb that Jesse AND even me was not expecting. He was married!!! Except, not in the way we'd all think. Sara isn't the same woman you'd remember. She went from the happy go-lucky woman. Who's madly in love  with Brett, to a shell of herself. Sarah hates Brett with everything she has. She hates herself even more. That night replays in her 24/7 & all she wants is it to end. Sarah wants Brett gone. Out of her life for good. Brett on the other hand, took his vows to heart, "In sickness & health. Till death do us part."

"I'm willing to try though. Something beyond my control draws me to you. You make me feel alive again, and as selfish as it sounds, I will do absolutely anything to hold on to that."

Jesse was shocked. When Brett saw her get upset it did something to him. It was then he realized he needed her in his life. They attempt the whole 'friend' thing. But, they both realize rather quickly that their friendship is a lot stronger. The feelings that they have for each other are not what they expected. Yet, every time they're together they ignore the tall, beautiful, blonde, crazy elephant in the room.

Brett realizes very quickly that Sarah wasn't the only one that died that terrible night 4yrs ago. They all did!! Except when he's around Jesse. He feels alive. He has starting to feel things that he hasn't felt since Sarah. Jesse knows that she is falling head over heals for Brett. But, knows that she must keep her heart guarded. Because, at the end of the day Jesse doesn't know if Brett can ever move on from Sarah. She dosen't just want to sit around and wait forever. Brett knows he must make a decision.

"You're not the only one confused here, Brett. You have a lot of cons, but I'm still standing here, aren't I? Let me watch out for myself, and decide what I can and can't handle."

This is most definitely not your typical love triangle. Brett & Sarah are only married on paper. Brett & Jesse are falling harder & harder. Sarah is now on a mission. Make Jesse's life as miserable as possible. Caleb is the good guy. He wants Jesse to be safe. Wants Brett to move on. Wants Sara gone. When thing's take a turn for the worse.  Brett must decide what & who he wants in his life. He needs to do what's best for everyone involved. That includes letting 1 of the 2 women he's ever loved go.

You will not be disappointed. For a debut novel Aly Martinez nailed it. I am really, really looking forward to read what she writes in the future!

"Jesse...I won't make you wait forever. Just give me a little more time to get my head straight."

"Jesse, you're my perfection. I'm sorry if I've made you feel that way about her. You're right, at one point she was my everything, but then I met you. We could play the 'what if she hadn't been in the accident' game all night, but it's not going to get us anywhere.
