I couldn’t walk away.
It’s not who I am.
The moment I saw Rayne broken and bloodied, I knew I wasn’t leaving without her.
As the president of the Houston Defiance MC, my job is to protect. And there’s no taming the rage building inside my body, screaming at me to shield her from the husband who’s beating her day in and day out.
Taking her was never in my plans, but plans change.
I don’t care if she’s married.
Or that her husband’s a cop.
Our connection is explosive, it’s dangerous, it’s intoxicating.
And I’m fast being swept up in her storm.
It’s something I can’t ignore.
I thought the enemy was clear, and I was ready to fight.
But maybe there’s a threat we didn’t see coming?
Maybe there’s someone closer to us than we ever could have imagined.
Someone who could be the destruction of us both.

✯✯5 Zero & Cherry Bomb Filled Stars!!!✯✯

OMG what a way to start a spin-off series to one of my favorite series. Chicago a Defiance MC Series had me hooked, line and sinker since the very first cover reveal. It’s legit in my top 3 favorite series covers. Plus, from reading that series we’ve been introduced to Zero and his guys a bunch of times and Zero definitely had my attention from the beginning.

We start off with Zero the VP of the Houston Defiance with his dad the President. Zero will takeover after his dad has groomed him and showed him all the ways to be a good President.

Zero learns that time isn’t on his side. The club is at a stand still with the militia. They’re trying to come to a truce that both sides will accept. Then, the militia barrels into the clubhouse and they’re not looking to talk.

The militia showed up with a mission. Zero watched his parents die right in front of his eyes. Zero took out the guy who ended his parents, the guy in charge of the militia.

Change is coming for Houston Defiance. Zero will do whatever he has too to make his dad proud.  Minutes later Zero’s life gets another zap. His sister Prinie grabs their younger brother Koda and runs away from Zero and the Defiance MC.

Rayne’s life isn’t all that she wants. She’s in a loveless marriage to a guy her parents chose and he uses his hands on her everyday. Her father made her go to school to become a pharmacist. Rayne absolutely loves being a pharmacist.

One night Rayne‘s husband got mad at her while they were out to eat and he takes her out to the back ally and beats the life outta her and leaves her there.  He’s a cop so she can’t call anybody to help.

When her Uber driver pulls up and finds her beaten pretty bad she offers to help her. Meeting the Uber driver, Prinie ended up saving Rayne. They’ve become best friends and Rayne’s not sure what she’ll ever do without Prinie.

It’s been a year since Zero lost both his parents and siblings. Zero has done a lot to make things safe enough that his sister will feel safe enough to comeback with their brother. He’s had eyes on them the whole time. It helps that they ran away to Chicago and are actually living in the Chicago Defiance clubhouse.

Zero and his brothers get there just in time as Chicago needs them as their clubhouse is being ambushed. If you read that series you’ll remember that scene playing out lol.

Zero convinced Prinie and Koda to comeback to Houston with him. But, Prinie insists on saying goodbye to her best friend.

Zero was unprepared for what was going to happen when they showed up at Rayne’s house.

Zero walks into Rayne’s house and she’s beaten to a pulp. Seeing Rayne’s house destroyed from her being thrown around and one look in her eyes and Zero knows he can’t leave Rayne at that house with that husband of hers.

Zero and Rayne are extremely attracted to each other. Like they never have been before. Zero has such deep beliefs that bc she technically is married and from what she just lived through he wants to stay away. Rayne hates her husband. There’s no love lost. Zero makes her feel things she’s never felt before and just wants him to make a move and not hide.

Zero wants to give Rayne everything even if he can’t give her him. With Rayne being a pharmacist and Chills being there and a Dr. Zero opens a pharmacy for Rayne to operate and it having a walk-in clinic that Chills will run.

When Prinie goes and gets mad she crosses a line that nobody in the Houston Defiance should cross and it could cost everybody in Defiance with their lives.

There is one thing the militia want that will make things even. But, Zero will need Rayne to cross a line. Use her chemistry and pharmacist skills in order for everybody to come out alive. Zero doesn’t know what Rayne will do since she was married to a cop. Rayne does care for the club and ESP about Prinie and Zero and she’ll do anything to help them.

Zero knows he cares about Rayne more then he has about anybody. They know until they figure out what to do about her husband they’ll have to be careful to keep her safe and the MC off the radar of the cops.

Zero and his brothers thought they knew who their allies were and who their enemies were. Then they see the side of somebody they thought they knew and their socks are knocked off. In order for Zero to make sure his brothers, siblings, the club and Rayne are all safe, secure and alive he’s gunna make a phone call he never thought he’d make. Zero’s hoping and praying he’s making the right decision for everybody he cares about.

OMG this book is everything!!! I100% forgot Chains, Chills, baby Kobe, Luc and Ruby went to Houston but I’m loving seeing them and their story continue.

Zero is even more then I’d imagined and trust me I imagined all about him lol. Rayne is the perfect match for my man Zero!!

I’m dying for a Prinie and Wraith’s story bc lemme tell y’all. These two have intense chemistry. Some frustrated chemistry that they need to bang out. I just hope they get it before Zero tears Wraith apart limb by limb lol.

I start moving toward the exit. My chest heats so fucking much it’s like I’m on fire. I don’t know what the hell’s happening right now, but having Rayne in my arms, knowing while I’m holding her, and no fucking person in the world can touch her, it has my body flaming in adrenaline.
This woman is bad news.
Real bad fucking news.
Her eyes linger on me as I walk with her from the bedroom, down the hall, and outside to the waiting van. Having her right up against me like this is not doing my cock any favors. She smells like peaches and fucking sunsets.
How the fuck can someone smell like a sunset? It’s like I’m going out of my damn mind right now.
She’s invading my senses as I help her inside the van, placing her in the rear seat.
“I don’t understand why you’re helping me?” Her eyes lock onto mine.
My protector mode rears its head yet again as I lean over her grabbing at the seat belt to pull over her. Our faces come in line with each other.
Rayne scrunches up her face, reaching for the seat belt. “I can put on my own seat belt.”
I jerk my head back as she removes it from my grip while trying to gain control of the situation. I pull it back from her and click it into position. “I’m sure you can, but I need to ensure you’re taken care of. Can’t get you out of this situation and have you injured on the way into the club because you’re not buckled in properly.”
Her eyes widen. “There are so many things wrong with what you just said. One, you think I’m incapable of something as simple as doing up a seat belt. And two, you believe your driving is so bad I’m going to be injured on the way to wherever it is you’re taking me?”
“That’s not what I meant—”
“Then you need to think about how you word shit, ‘cause you’re coming across as an arrogant ass.”
I glare at her smug, insolent, beautiful face. “You have an attitude problem, cherry bomb.”
She snorts. “And you think you can control me because I get beaten up by my husband? He might walk all over me, but you…” she tilts her head smugly, “… not so much.”
Hmm. She has a feisty side.
I lean in closer. Her eyes widen, and her breathing hitches. She’s affected. “I like your fighting spirit, Rayne. You are a wild one.”
She leans in closer, we’re only an inch apart, the smell of peach surrounds me. It takes every ounce of strength I have not to rush forward pressing my lips to hers. My eyes stare into her incandescent emerald green eyes, they’re so alive, so alight with fire. She has so much fight in her. As she licks her bottom lip, my cock twitches when she whispers, “You ain’t seen nothing yet.”
A low hum vibrates from my chest as I exhale, backing away from Rayne slowly.
She’s trouble with a capital ‘I’m screwed.’

✯✯5 Unsafe Action Filled Stars!!!✯✯

Well, Kate L. Mary you’ve done it to me again!! I’m sitting here again speechless after finishing Far From Safe. I thought I was speechless when Far From Home ended but I was even more so mind blown this time around.

If you haven’t read Far From Home then stop and go back and read it before you open this book. This isn’t a standalone and can’t be as one!!

We pick up exactly where we left off. Rowan has finally made it home and in time to see her poor mom walking down the block with the rest of the neighbors who’ve all passed and are now zombies. With no word from her father in weeks, Rowan is positive he passed away while working at the hospital. She’s lost her parents and is devastated but she must keep going or she won’t make it.

Rowan, Devon, Kiaya, Lisa and Buck must figure out what’s next for them. Bc, it’s not just themselves they gotta look out for. As much as Rowan wants to stay locked up in her childhood home and hide, they’re running low on supplies and not hidden away safely and there’s zombies surrounding them.

The group comes up with a good starting plan. Check out Rowan’s neighbors houses for two things 1-survivors and 2-supplies. Grab as much as possible that they can use. Then, head to the stores and stock up on everything else. Afterwards, they gotta figure out where they can go to that’ll keep their group together and safe. Rowan has one other thing on her list of things to do: bury her mom but she’s keeping that to herself for now.

Things definitely aren’t easy in times like this. You gotta be on guard 110% of the time.  BC, at any minute a zombie can pop up outta nowhere and attack. Then there’s the chance you bump into somebody who’s not dead but they’re far from a good person.

While out on a supply run they come across zombies but when they do bump into humans Rowan was shocked she knew one of the living. It was her ex Doug and Rowan definitely wasn’t happy to see him. She was glad he wasn’t dead but didn’t wanna see him lol.

When Doug and his crew invite Rowan and her friends to join them at the school they’re at none of them are totally sure it’s the right decision. They know it’s safer then where they’re at now. When they get there they’re even more unsure them before. Before they can really figure out their next choice they find themselves in real trouble and Rowan throws herself head first into the lions den with some dangerous lions.

I felt so many emotions reading this. My heart pounded so many times. I kept hoping and praying nothing happened to Rowan, Devon, Kiaya and Lisa every time they left the house.

Miller is still a tool. He’s a complete jerk and my gut is telling me he’s lying about who he really is. Never really had an issue with Hank before but now I’m getting creeper vibes of him.

I liked Buck from the beginning. But, now he’s showing another side to him and I wasn’t sure how it was gunna turn into. When he told Rowan his story and what made him into what he was OMG I was laying in bed crying and feeling for him and didn’t blame him.

Now we have Doug back in Rowan’s life. I totally 100% understood why she felt the way she did towards him. Shoot I have some ex’s who have done me wrong so I get it. I don’t know how it’s gunna be with him yet. But, he seems like a good guy. He proved himself with a few things so far that chipped a few notches in his favor.

When I read Rowan’s moms letter I was legit bawling right along next to Rowan. I don’t know  if I would’ve survived after reading a letter like that from my mom. I’m just saying.

I’m excited for the next book after the explosive cliffhanging ending!! I’m gunna need Devon and Doug to man up, team together and put their heads together and get Rowan outta the horrible mess she got herself into. Please guys!!

✯Release Review✯Needing You Close (Ex-Con Duet Series #2) by Kennedy Fox

Needing You Close
Tyler & Gemma #2
Release Date: August 13

I never expected to see my first love again after he left me twelve years ago. Though I’ve moved on, working with Tyler is no easy task—especially when he focuses his bedroom eyes on me. Flirting with the past is like playing with fire, and considering I’m engaged, I’m bound to get burned.

When the man I promised to marry reveals he’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing, I run to the safety of Tyler’s strong arms. As we grow closer, so do our feelings. Threats and ultimatums are made, and the revelation of the truth is enough to bring me to my knees. I’ll do whatever it takes to protect my family, even if it means shredding my heart.

Too dangerous, too unpredictable, too risky to handle alone—we need each other now more than ever.

After our world nearly collapses, there’s nothing left to do but take it back. Tyler and I team up to destroy the people who are determined to ruin our second chance at a happily ever after. Though our love is undeniable, I just hope it’s enough. We’ll fight until the end to be together—regardless of who tries to get in our way.

NEEDING YOU CLOSE is a slow-burn, angsty romance wrapped up in an intense love story. It's book 2 in the Tyler & Gemma duet and must be read in order.

✯✯5 Tyler Blackwood Filled Stars!!!✯✯

OMG I almost threw my kindle against the wall when I finished Keeping You Away when Gemma was introduced to Robert’s client and it was the beautiful evil monster Victoria. Luckily I sleep alone bc I drop a few massive F-bombs lol. I was immediately worried for Gemma and Tyler bc they didn’t just have Robert’s dangerous self but now Victoria had showed up. Man, I felt defeated.

Needing You Close picked up exactly where we left off. Tyler’s in Vegas helping Eric hoping to end Victoria once and for all. Gemma just finished dinner with Robert’s client and she’s regretting agreeing she’d stay the night. After finding the proof he was the one who had her and Tyler followed and Gemma is fuming.

Things from this point on will never be the same Gemma and Tyler and those closest to them.

Gemma and Robert have a huge blowup and with the help of Everleigh she gets outta there with Robert telling her no matter what she says they aren’t over. Gemma knows he means it too.

Tyler can tell instantly something’s wrong with Gemma when he walks into work and agrees to wait until after work to talk about what’s going on.

While Tyler’s beyond happy Gemma broke-up with Robert he believes in them too much to jump right in. Tyler wants to be there for Gemma as a friend for whatever she needs. Until she’s ready to truly move on and then it’s game on.

Tyler and Gemma finally decide to take the next step past their friendship and it feels as good as they remembered if not better. But, before these two get their HEA the wolves have come out of their dens and they’re looking for one ugly, nasty fight.

Tyler was all ready and willing to fight and knowing the amazing man he already is would go back to jail to protect Gemma from what was coming. But, Gemma wouldn’t let him. She knew she’d figure out a way for things to go their way.

I am not gunna lie and say I had faith Tyler and Gemma were getting their HEA that they rightfully deserved.

But, Kennedy Fox proved me wrong. When I tell you these two along with Gemma and Tyler 100% shocked me, Gemma’s dad, Katie and Everleigh. The shock was definitely a good one bc I was hysterically laughing right along with them when they showed their winning hand of cards lol.

Tyler has been one of my favorite side characters for such a long time, more so then any other ones ESP since he took such a big sacrifice going undercover and then going to jail. He could’ve sat back and let Liam figure it out but nope. Tyler is a real true friend!! And, he’s an even better boyfriend. I need to him me Tyler Blackwood!!

Gemma was another one I really liked. She annoyed me a bit in the first part but she truly grew on me this second half of the duet.

One thing that bothered me was Victoria. While I’m happy with the end result..... I’m not happy with how it happened. She is such a vile, nasty, evil person that I wanted her to truly truly suffer and suffer miserably after the chaos and destruction she caused for so long. In my opinion she got off way TOO easy.

I’m very sad this duet is over. But, I am looking forward to Noah and Katie getting their HEA bc from what we’ve seen of Noah there’s so much more of their story that hasn’t been said yet and man am I all ready for it.

I am hoping and praying that if not in Noah and Katie’s duet then it better be in Everleigh’s duet I’m going to NEED Liam and Maddie to come visit Tyler like they promised. Bc, I am dying for Maddie to join in on these three girls night!!!

VENGEANCE
I often wondered if Vengeance came with a price. I never cared, not after the torture I’ve endured.
For me, Vengeance is best served through the eyes of my scope. The twitch of my finger. The pull of a trigger.
The death of someone who deserves to die.
Revenge, retribution, and retaliation are all that comes to mind.
Cruel and brutal punishment for the hell inflicted on my family is all I’ve ever been able to think about.
The betrayal fresh in mind years later, reminding me of the day my world came crashing down.
I lost everything.
The woman I loved.
My sister.
My parents.
Myself.
You know what else I say about Vengeance?
It’s best served frozen.
No side dish of compassion. No extra helping of warning.
No dessert called a second chance.
The price I want for it.
Is written in blood.
Author Note- This book does contain triggers. It’s noted here as well as the beginning of the book.
WARRANT
Every wrongdoing warrants a consequence. In my case, I’ve decided to settle the score with death.
Especially when, what brought this on, what stirred up my crazy, was the vicious attack on an innocent young girl.
Worse, one that ended in her death.
Years, I’ve been plotting to take out the men I used to call my brothers.
The men who double-crossed me by brutally murdering my sister.
I want revenge. I need it. Crave it. It’s in my blood.
I planned to stop at nothing. No matter, if I conflicted pain on another woman.
After all, it was her brother who killed my sister. I figured, why not make him suffer the same way I have.
One tiny glimpse of her changes everything.
Or does it?
Maybe, just maybe, the little siren I wanted to harm is going to single-handedly slaughter me instead.
Lies. Deceit.
Manipulation.
Gotta love a tangled web of warranted deception.
* Author note. This book does contain triggers. Please be advised.
A warranted HEA guaranteed.
RETALIATION
As far back as I can remember, I pushed away those ugly demons looping their venom around my brain.
Trying to turn me into a man I never wanted to be.
“Do what we say or die.”
Words filled with poison, they slowly dripped in my veins, leaving me a mess of a man, and walking that thin line between
right and wrong.
I never wanted to be a killer; now it’s a craving I need to survive.
The man I used to be never wanted to cause anyone an ounce of unbearable pain, because I know first-hand what it feels
like.
That choking in your throat, barely able to breathe heartbreak of those who died, left behind.
The men I’m killing, they left me no choice but to walk a line chalked with retaliation.
To leave the woman I love behind.
I didn’t take a life like they claim to cause her pain. I sacrificed a lifetime with her to keep her alive.
But, after fourteen years of her living that lie, I’m crossing another line.
One I was warned to never step over.
“Stay away from her, or she dies.”
*Author Note- This book may spark triggers.

Vengeance
Prologue

Cade
Eighteen Years Old

Loud voices shouted from downstairs as I pulled my earbuds out and jumped out of bed. Terror swelled in my head.

I heard my mother’s tortured screaming. My father crying out in an unhinged voice pierced with pain. Both repeating one question. Why?

Before I could bring my tired mind to comprehend what the hell was going on, two gunshots went off from downstairs; they swirled around the confusion with the sudden flames and smoke that began ripping and roaring through the floorboards of my bedroom.

I froze.

Everything went silent except the unimaginable rushing thoughts in my head, the pounding of my heart and the crackling sound of fire as it licked and twisted itself into my room. Thick black clouds choked the air as I shoved open my window to catch my breath.

Panic twined around my legs. Death whirled within my twitchy finger‘s reach.

I needed to get to my sister and brother whose rooms were across the hall. Except, the dirty fuckers who set the house on fire didn’t leave me a choice. I had just swung in the direction of my door when it blew off its hinges nearly knocking me on my ass from the combustion as pieces of incinerated wood sailed through the air.

I ducked, but I couldn’t avoid the bits and pieces of burned wood that pelted and stung my skin.

“Move Cade. Save your family.” I wasn’t giving up. I was shocked. Confused and scared. I had to get to them. Save them all even if I died doing it.

I took a step and the floor shifted underneath my feet.

With a scream so loud it should have woken the dead, and with the guilt of leaving them behind, I did the only thing I could do. I flung my body out my window, skimmed down the trellis and hid in the shadows. Body shaking, hot salty tears burning behind my lids.

I couldn’t move to see if any of them made it out alive. I watched it burn as choking clouds of toxic smoke pilfered through the chimney, crackling flames torching the roof. The smell of gasoline so fierce it burned my nose. An out of control inferno. Ash floating to the ground like flakes of snow while I sat there wondering who in the hell would do this.

Gripping handfuls of my hair did nothing to dull the ache in my chest as my gaze traveled to my neighbors standing on the sidewalk across the street. My eyes scanning for my family. None of them were there.

I searched the crowd, body shaking, mind not quite catching on to what was happening and there in the middle of everyone stood my girl all wrapped up in her father’s arms. I started to stand, to let them know I was alive when I heard my older brother Drew and a few of his friends whispering just a few feet away from me.

My heart leaped knowing he was alive. I started to move toward them when something was said that rooted me in my spot.

I heard Drew ask which one of his friends had my dad’s life insurance policy.

I squatted, crawled through the grass like a snake ready to strike, shaking my head to clear the misunderstanding I surely thought I heard.

The closer I snuck, the more bile rose in my throat. “We need to get the hell out of here,” one of them said.

“Give me the policy and two minutes to watch them burn,” my brother demanded with laughter trailing those words that will forever haunt me.

“Fairly certain they’re all dead, man. You shot your parents in the head. These two pussies watched for your brother’s bitch to sneak over. I took care of your sister real fucking good before I choked the life out of her, and there isn’t a chance in hell Cade made it out of his room. You made certain of that.”

Want to bet, you rotten piece of shit.

I didn’t hear a goddamn thing wrong. My brother and his friends killed our parents and little sister. The way they laughed about certain things they had done before executing their well-thought-out-plan made numbness take over my brain.

I pressed a hand against my heart while vowing to the Gods of Vengeance I was going to get mine. I’d strike when they least expected.

Watching your family go up in flames, wanting to put a bullet through your own brother’s head, the guilt of not being able to help save them did all kinds of fucked up shit to my mind.

It tempered inside until the silent vow of putting them in the ground defeated my every thought. Knew I had to go rogue.

So I fled.

I left leaving my brother to believe I had died. Left my girlfriend Ivy McCarthy who I loved more than anything behind.

For ten years, vengeance has shaded my soul from gray to black. It’s feasted throughout my entire system, shutting down my state of mind, and becoming the focal point of my existence.

Once I started to plan their deaths, the imagined ways and inhuman actions on how I wanted to kill them ticked at my jaw and dripped like poison through my veins.

More times than I could count while I pulled the trigger and put a bullet through hundreds of enemies’ heads, my mind would tip in the other direction, and that loose wire would trip up in my brain.

The one that gives a vivid image of happy memories, what ifs, and what could have been.

And goddamnit all to hell when I thought about them, wishing they were here, wondering what kind of woman my sister Rachel would have turned out to be if it didn’t leave me wondering if my soul would still be painted black, would I still want to pull the trigger and blow my brother’s fucking face off.

Then again, I remembered who I’d become, and why I’d spent years hiding in the shadows, and vengeance once again became a deadly virus in my mind.

It’s been left unsettled, it’s festered, leaving me balancing somewhere between Heaven and Hell.
