This is my first teacher/student forbidden love story. It won't be my last either. This is a story about Eli & Jill. They spent the last six months having an online relationship. The connection they have is unbelievable. Eli never thought he'd find a girl who shares his love for history that he has. When Eli's dad gets sick he needs his help. Even though his relationship with his dad is strained he'll be closer to Jill,. It's a win win!

When they meet it's instant electric!! Until Eli spots her ID and she's 17! Eli breaks off contact with her. Even though she insists it's OK because in a few weeks she'll be 18. Both Eli & Jill are devastated but try to move on.

Jill goes to school. Her favorite class is history and her teacher is sick. He's having his son come to take over his classes. When Jill looks up for world is shattered. Eli is her teachers son!

Eli can not believe Jill is not only 17 but now she's his student. When they get a chance to talk privately it doesn't go the way Eli planned. He can't be with a student. But, Jill is different.

For the remainder of the year it's constant ups & downs with these 2. I loved Jill. Even though she's 17/18 she knows what she wants. And, that's Eli. Eli on the other hand got on my last nerve! One minute he's telling her this has to stop. The next he's ripping her clothes off. He's also fighting his own demons from his childhood because of his father's choices and decisions. As much as Eli didn't want to be his father. He was turning into him.

This book is fast paced. I never knew what was going to happen next. Jill knew what she wanted and went for it. She has 2 friends that I loved!! There was family secrets from both Eli & Jill that I never saw coming. Definitely a good book to read.

Sara Wolf has done it to me again!! Every series she comes out with gets better then the last. I read both her Arranged & Lovely Vicious series's. But, this one is totally not like the last one's she has put out. I loved how different it was from everything I have read before. It has humans & aliens and everybody trying to figure out whats right and wrong. How to try to follow what they believe and not by what other people are telling them. Sara did an awesome job!!

Fear Me Not follows Victoria AKA Vic as she enters Green Hills High School as a EVE (Emotion Vesicle Engraft). She is going to be feeding the Gutters her emotions. The aliens AKA Gutters crash landed on earth 11 years before and haven't been able to fix their spaceship and leave. The government and the aliens have come up with the plan to open this school where BOTH human & gutter children go to school together. One gutter & human share a room together and become culture partners. They have to study together and teach the other one about their world.

"They're not going to let us leave, Shadus. They're going to kill us all. All of us. And they're going to make it look like an accident, so the general public doesn't suspect anything."

It is definitely not as easy as it sounds. Humans do not trust Gutters. Gutters do not trust humans. But, unfortunately for the Gutters they NEED the humans to survive. So why would the humans agree to klet their children go to school with Gutters? Money! When the humans fulfill their contract they get paid a lot.

"You'll never understand the sacrifices we've made just to survive on this planet. And you'll never care. Because you're  a human. And all they do is pretend to care."

Victoria's mom died in a stampede surrounding the Gutters. Her mom hated them and was always one of the first when the protests against the Gutters started. So, why would she agree to become a EVE? Her younger sister is very sick. Her father is working 24/7 and is struggling to pay for her treatments. Vic's compatibility with the EVE is so good that she'll get paid so high that she can't say no.

Now, she's paired up with Shadus who's family is high up in the Gutter world. Shadus is not like most of the other Gutters. He speaks no one! Her roommate is Raine. Her family is high up too. Raine is also a model & on every magazine cover. She tries to be friendly with Vic. But, Vic stops it real quick.

Only certain people can be EVEs. Everybody knows that. Genetic dispositions, blood types, health; all of it's a factor. The clinics test humans for a specific genetic marker that makes it easier for the body to accept the EVE organ.

Vic is on a mission. Get through this year and get the money to help her sister. It should be easy!

Vic & Shadus have a very interesting relationship. They agree to be not-friends! Yes, they have to study together and whatnot. But, unlike a lot of the other Gutter/Human friendships popping up all over the place. They will not be one of them. That's a lot harder then what they thought as well.

Over time together things change between them. Shadus starts telling Vic things about the Gutters. Things NO human should know. Shadus lets Vic know that it doesn't matter who she tells nobody will believe her. Vic on the other hand gives Shadus information too. Stuff like smile you won't be so scary. Or explain what words to use & not use.

"Gutters are not dangerous. Despite the rumore, Gutters have no special abilities, or enhanced series. We are in human bodies, after all. We are as you are. Lastly, culture, and we ask the same for you."

They quickly become friends whether they like it or not. Deep down they do. But, they'd never say it out loud.

Vic becomes fast friends with Dakota. Another human who gets picked on constantly and reminds her of her younger sister. She also becomes friends with another Gutter Taj. He too is high up.

Vic literally becomes friends with the highest of high Gutters! She sees stuff firsthand that no other human ever would. She is learning rather quickly that not all gutters are as bad as the protesters have made them out. She may not agree with how they do things on their planet. But, who is she to judge.

"I'm not trying to make friends. I'm an Executioner. My duty is to deal death. Friends don't tend to stick around when your job is to behead people."

Vic gets into a nice routine with her friends Shadus, Raine, Taj & Dakota. Until everything changed. Things started blowing up. Explosions. Gutter/Human start dating. Murder. Parents pulling their children both Gutter & Human out of school.

"We probably shouldn't be friends. That'd be dangerous. But, i mean. We can be not-friends."

Now, Vic & her 3 Gutter friends are in a race. A race to save the world from getting into  a war. Save Vic. They have it all planed out. Until, Sara did it again. CLIFFHANGER hit again!!

"I trust no one," Shadus snarls. "Least of all her. I merely wanted to expose her to the truth of our culture. That's what this school is for, isn't it?"

I feel like Sara likes doing this to me!! I'm going to start preparing myself from now on. I can not wait for the next book. Sara did such a excellent job with this one. It's by far her best yet. I loved the whole alien part. Sara went into detail with explaining their world, the language & their beliefs. She really put a lot into the aliens. It was nice to see how the races went from one way in the beginning. And, to watch them evolve was awesome to see!

Every character brought something to the table. Especially how some appeared to be strong on the outside. Yet, on the inside wanted acceptance. Some wanted to truly believe one thing. But, when faced with things. They didn't know what to believe.  It was a fantastic read! Thanks again Sara.

"Rules will be broken, yes. We'll have to break many, many rules to prevent the humans from killing us, and the sotho from killing the humans."

“I’m sorry,” Shadus’ voice says.

My eyes slide over – Shadus is standing right next to me, leaning on the bookshelf. I close my eyes and sigh.

“Don’t be. It’s me. Something’s wrong with me. I don’t know how to react like a normal person. Jeers, whispers, sneers, those are fine. I ignore them, punch something to make them hurt less. Compliments? I don’t know what to do with those.”

“You’re different. That’s not necessarily bad,” He offers. His long fingers skim over a row of books and he picks one out, flipping through the pages. “More literature in which the protagonist kisses his interest. Is it all your human writers are interested in? It hardly seems worthy enough to devote entire books to.”

 “It’s not so bad,” I defend. “Kissing.”

“You speak from experience?” He asks.

“Second grade during the school play. Arnold Grady. We were backstage, behind the curtain. I thought it was a good time to go for it.”

“It was enjoyable, then?”

“Too wet.” I laugh, the memory burning like an old tattoo of embarrassment. “He was shorter than me - all the boys were. They’ve only started catching up this year, really.”

“I’m jealous.”

I raise an eyebrow. “What? Of the short boys?”

“Of your kiss. You speak of it fondly. Even if it was lacking technique, you still remember it. It must have been an important experience. I assume I will never know that sort of feeling - ”

I step into him. He jolts back, hitting the bookshelf. It shakes, and settles. I point up at him.

“Be thankful. You guys have the ceremony of flame. You don’t waste time with petty shit and he-likes-her-she-likes-him crap. Your future is arranged by your family. But us? Humans? We fish around blindly in a pool of seven billion people, hoping one of them isn’t too crazy or too incompatible with us, and we get so desperate that when we find someone we can stand for two minutes we decide to marry them for life, when in reality they’re all wrong for us. But we keep pretending they’re right, until we can’t anymore, and then we divorce them or break up and we get up and try again, and again, and it chips away at our tiny human hearts.”

He stares at me intently, as if I’m lecturing him and he’s trying his hardest to learn something from it. I snort.

“You’re lucky, Creeps. All you Gutters are lucky.”

“What you call ‘lucky’, I call ‘boring’,” Shadus says. “The human way of things may be more painful, but it sounds much more fun.”

I stride up to him, get in his face. His chest is rising and falling, his fists balled up. His ruby eyes stare down at me.

“Don’t do it,” He murmurs.

“Do what?”  I singsong.

He struggles with something inside himself, a pained look coming over his expression.

“Victoria -”

I press my head into the cradle where his neck meets his shoulder.

"I was thirty years old when the seaplane T.J. Callahan and I were traveling on crash-landed in the Indian Ocean. T.J. was sixteen.."

I first heard of this book when My friend sent me a Goodread request. I instantly wanted to read it. It reminded me of The Blue Lagoon. LOL.

T.J. and Anna learn very quickly how to adapt to living on this island all alone. You will see how their relationship evolves from teacher/student, to friends, and then eventually more then just friends. You will also get both of their POV in every chapter. Which is great!!!

The story takes place when 16yr old T.J. Callahan beats cancer. Now, his family is forcing him to go on vacation to the Maldives. But, because he missed so much school from being sick, they've hired Anna Emerson to come along as his tutor. T.J talks his parent's into letting him stay home a extra night. Once T.J & Anna get to the airport is where their journey begins.

After they almost get stranded at the airport, they find a pilot willing to take them to the island. While on the way there  the pilot has a major heart attack and they end up crashing in the middle of the ocean. When they finally wash ashore both of them are bruised and battered. But, that is the least of their problems. They have no food, no water, no shelter, and no way of knowing if T.J's cancer has or will return. 

They begin by exploring parts of the island. But, they don't stray to far in hopes of missing their rescue plane. Luckily for Anna, because T.J has gone thru so much in such a short time, he's alot older for his age, and he adapts very quickly. They make a small make shift shelter so their not sleeping on the ground. After living off of coconut & bread fruit for awhile one of Anna's suitcases washes ashore.. HOORAY!!! And, boy oh boy did she pack!!!! LOL. T.J uses her earrings to use for fishing. Now, that they have some protein in them they're feeling  awhole lot better. But, the weeks turn to months and there is still no plane to take them home. 

Everyday is the same thing. Get up, find food, wash up in the lagoon, wash their clothes, take a nap, swim with the dolphins. Not in that order everyday. But, thanks to T.J they have a shack to live in. He found an abandoned  shack and took it apart and remade it on their side of the island. Now, they have a room with a window, walls & a roof. Plus, they kept their little make shift shelter for the fire wood & fire at night. 

Now, the months are turning into years that they're on the island. Neither one of them bring up getting rescued & going home. Because, they've lost faith that in that ever happening. But, now their fighting a totally new battle. They are trying to fight the feelings they're having for one another. With T.J being 18 and Anna being 32 thing's definitely go from friends to something alot more. 

The author does  a excellent making you feel BOTH of T.J & Anna's feelings. All of their pain. All of their feelings for each other. The fear they have of never leaving the island. The fear if the other one gets sick/hurt and them dying. And, being left  alone to do it all by themselves. The fear of if & when they rescued. THEN, what happens??? What will their families say? What will society say about the teacher/student now more then that. And....What happens to them....

I could definitely go further. But, I don't want to give to much away. I will tell you. Anna & T.J's story had me hooked from page #1. If you're looking for a story that will have you not wanting to put down. This is it!!! It's a def nail biter from start until end!! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!
