Whoah!!! After the way The Ash Moon ended I couldn’t wait to start this book.  You should not read this book without reading the first book already. 

We pick up right where we left off. This pact war has left the Avynwood pact down one and the Diaminsey pack with a bit of an advantage. 

Ari is left feeling miserable and she feels fully responsible for the death. Rion, Wake, Aries and the rest of the pack continue letting her know it wasn’t. Part of being a wolf is to protect your fellow pact members and always always protect the women and children. 

Ari and Rion still haven’t fully mated. But, everyday they’re together their bond becomes closer and closer. Rion is ready for it to be complete but will give Ari her space and go at the speed she’s ready to go at. 

Ari’s also got an intense connection to her vampire best friend Ford and Rion’s cousin Wake. Rion and Ari can read each other’s minds, have conversations and know what the other is feeling. Ari also has that same connection with Ford. I will say their conversations both out loud and telepathically is legit hilarious. 

Ford’s very open with Ari on his feelings for her. He’s not afraid to tell her he loves her. Ari loves Ford and she’s open with it to him. But, she lets him know she loves him as a friend and that her heart belongs to Rion. 

If those two beautiful, complicated, alpha men weren’t enough add Wake into the situation. He was first kicked outta Avynwood pack and now he’s been kicked out of the Diaminsey pack which leaves him completely alone. Luckily for him he’s got two people in his corner. Ford and Ari. 

Wake wants him family back. His pack back. If he can’t have them back he wants to die. Ari won’t let him kill himself or let anybody else kill him. She’s constantly going against Rion and everybody else. 

Ari is still the person everybody says will be the person behind the stop of this pack war. But, these jerk offs from the Diaminsey pack continue going to crazy lengths to get ahead of the Avynwood pack including going after humans and lying to other paranormal communities in order to get allies. 

Ari is new into the world of the paranormal and she’s young ok too of it.  But, Ari in my opinion is selfish and she’s doing whatever she wants with whoever and making decisions & getting advantages to get ahead in this war. Except she’s not taking Rion’s or Ford’s opinions or feelings into consideration. 

But, they’re all on the same page. Stick together, make allies and get rid of the Diaminsey pack once and for all. When I tell you the last sentence of the book made my jaw break from dropping so damn fast and hard that it’s an understatement lol. 

I can’t wait to read the last book The Crucial Shift. I’m glad there will be spin off books to this series. Bc, umm I need inside Ford and Wake mind. I just hope in the next book Ari stop thinking of herself. If it wasn’t for Rion, Ford and Wake I’d of liked this less. But, man they’re amazing and make this whole story.

This is one series I’d love love to see on the big screen!!! I’m in love with Kate L. Mary’s writing. I’d been waiting to get Uprising since finishing Outliers and man Kate didn’t disappoint me at all. 

We pick up right where we left off previously with Indra agreeing to go back to work at Saffron’s House. Indra’s not the same quiet, timid person she was all those months ago. No, she was beaten almost to death, been abused by the son of the household and watched her husband Bodhi murdered at the hands of the Sovereign. 

Indra doesn’t last long back at Saffron’s. When Mira’s attacked Indra doesn’t standby like they’ve always done.  Instead she stands up and takes matters in her own hands. Indra and Mira are now on the run to get out of Sovereign City before they’re caught or they’ll loose their lives. 

By the time they get back to their home their tribe was beaten, murdered and burned to the ground. Luckily her sister remembers Indra’s warning and got as many women and children out as possible. Indra takes them to Bodhi’s cave where they must start over. 

Indra’s the backbone to the ladies left of their tribe. She shows them how to start surviving on their own without the men doing all the hunting, fishing and fighting themselves. They change their names from Winta to Windhi (in honor of her late husband Bodhi). 

Indra’s a born leader. Bodhi saw it and it was why he showed her the things he did before his death. Indra is voted as the new tribe leader to her group. Indra wants to Sovereign and Fortis to pay for the way they’ve treated her tribe and the other fellow Outlier tribes. Indra knows if all four Outlier tribes come together they can take out the other two groups. 

Indra continues her hunting for food. And, along the way she started taking out the Fortis hunters she comes across in the woods. Indra also goes to the other Outlier tribes to talk about them teaming up together to take out the Fortis first and then go after the Sovereign. There are four large Outlier tribes but no two are the same. They’ve all got their own rules, traditions and ways of doing things.  I loved the way Kate wrote them so differently but still able to work together to takeout a common enemy. 

If Indra wasn’t dealing with enough everyday there’s more. Asa, the Fortis guard who protected her day in and day out. Asa always seemed to continue popping up into Indra’s life. Indra knew being around Asa and this friendship slash more then friends relationship they had going on was going to be an issue with some of her fellow Windhi tribe as well as the other Outliers tribes. Luckily she has Mira in her corner to give her backup that Asa is one of the few Fortis that’s a good honest man. 

Everybody must decide what’s to come next. They must get into the Sovereign City and rescue the Outliers who’re being kept as the Sovereign’s slaves and takeout the Fortis then the Sovereign. But, things are never ever as easy as they seem. 

No joke Kate L. Mary has started an incredible series. There’s so many ways the storyline can go from here. One person can go straight and the other can twist and everything can change. I’m SO looking forward to where Kate’s going to bring us next!!!

Asa and I stood in silence for a moment before he said, “You’ve started down a very dangerous path, Indra. You have to know that. You’ve been lucky so far, but it can’t last. Eventually, one of the men you attack will get the better of you, and then you’ll get hurt.”

Anger flared through me then, replacing the fear that had been swimming in me since Asa came upon me in the forest yesterday. He knew I had already been hurt, in so many ways. He had seen it with his own eyes, had told me that my pain had hurt him as well, yet he had the nerve to say this to me.

“Hurt?” I found myself spitting the word at him. “I am getting hurt every day, Asa. You have seen it. You have seen what these men have done to me, to the people I love, to my tribe, and to all the other Outliers working in the city. We stared at one another for a moment, each of us lost in our own pain, in the pain that was both for ourselves and for our people. I could see the battle raging in him, the one that pulled him in two different directions. Between me, a person he had come to care about, and his people. It was unfair to ask him to do this thing for me, to make a choice that went against who he was, but I could not turn back now, just as he could not change the fact that he had been born a Fortis. Those were his people, but I was an Outlier, and we had been fooling ourselves for too long. Our worlds were too different to mix. We were too different.

“I understand the things that have been done to you,” he finally said. “I understand your anger. But I’m looking out for you, Indra.”

“I know, but maybe it is time I learned to look out for myself,” I replied.

“Are you saying you don’t want my help anymore?” he asked, surprise and doubt clouding his vision.

I exhaled as the truth settled over me like a heavy weight. There was no way I could walk away from his help, not if I wanted to keep Mira safe.

“You know I cannot do that,” I finally said, “but you must also know I cannot turn my back on my people either. I will leave it up to you to decide what you must do from here. If you cannot live with the things I have done, the things I plan to continue to do, I will understand.” I stepped back, and it seemed as if a large canyon had opened up between us. I waved down at myself when I said, “This is who I am, Asa. That will not change.”

His brown eyes swept over me, softening even more. “I know who you are, Indra, and even if I don’t agree with it, I can’t turn my back on you now.”

For once, his assurances gave me no comfort. Asa and I were involved in an alliance which defied logic, and one which could not last. Eventually, something would happen that would cause him to turn his back on me, and when that time came, I was unsure of what would become of us. Of what I would be forced to do to not only save myself, but my people.

I legit wish I could go into Rie’s mind and look around. Every book of hers I devour in one or two sittings. This was no different. This is considered a standalone but I’d definitely read book one or you might be a little confused. 

Zane watched his brother X the Zenithian king find Prairie and watched them fall in love and get married. Zane realized that it’s the right time for him to find love and settle down. Them him and his brother can rule Zenithia together with their mates by their sides. 

Zane heads to Area 51 where he runs into Astrid. The beautiful women wearing a shirt saying aliens are real. Zane realized quick that Astrid knew things about his planet that he was in shock. He convinced her to give him a week to go with him and learn about his planet. And, fall in love and stay with him. So he hoped. 

Astrid’s parents fully believed that aliens existed. They also believed her brother Cozmo was abducted by aliens. So every year they go to Area 51 where her brother was “abducted”. While Astrid doesn’t believe in aliens she still goes with them. Astrid works for NASA. 

Astrid was unprepared for running into a guy like Zane. When he claims to be a prince of Zenithia she just rolls her eyes and goes with the flow. When she wakes up there everything starts to change and Astrid’s world is turned upside down. ESP when Zane starts telling her about his planet and when he pulls his pants down and she’s faced with not one huge 10 inch friend. But, TWO 10 inch friends lol. 

I fell for X in book one. But, Zane is just as lovable if not more. Zane didn’t have it easy like his brother did his whole life. He was trained to be a worrier by their uncle. And, his uncle has it out for them. More so now that they’ve fallen and mated with humans. But, Zane will not go down easy and will protect those he loves. 

Astrid I’m iffy over. I loved Prairie in book one and fell harder for her in this book. But, I couldn’t connect to Astrid the same way. I really don’t know why I just couldn’t. I do love how she was with Zane. 

The story continues from book one. We see what’s next with Prairie making X free the humans. X and Prairie’s storyline continues and helping Zane and Astrid’s relationship. But, there’s still danger following them and they’re on a mission to solve it. I’m SO looking forward to the next story. I’ve got a long list of side characters that I want a book for. Yes, I’m greedy lol
