Synopsis:

**This highly anticipated debut novel was inspired by actual events.**

Sember is a strong-willed attorney who’s got it all: the budding career, the condo, and a marriage proposal right around the corner.

When her sister, Sarah, needs a new attorney, Sember is torn. She wants to help Sarah, but she is terrified her emotions could compromise the case. With so much at stake, failure isn't an option.

In walks Jax Alexander, a brilliant legal mind from New York who excites Sember’s body and mind. When he offers to take on Sarah’s case, he provides hope in a hopeless situation. Sember and Jax are thrust together as their passion ignites.

As a web of lies is exposed, Jax works tirelessly to reveal the truth behind Sarah’s case. But, he has a dark secret shadowing his past that threatens to destroy everything.
In the midst of so many lies, can Jax really be trusted? His secret could put Sarah’s case in jeopardy and could cost Sember her life. Will he risk it all to save them, or will he cut and run, leaving destruction in his wake?

Sometimes, desperate acts call for desperate measures.

 ✯✯4 Intense Stars!!✯✯

This is Emerson Shaw debut book. And, what a debut book it was. WOW!!! It was packed with a little bit of everything from action, friendship, love, lies, anger, pain. You name it and Acts of Desperation had it all. This story is based off what the author and her family went through. The fact that anybody had to go through this & come out of it alone has  my respect. Because, I don't know how I'd be able to go through it all and survive to tell the story.

Sember is a lawyer and is good at it. She is a rock for her older sister Sarah. Sarah is going through a nasty divorce with her husband Anders. He is a  narcissistic asshole and that's being nice!! I hated everything about him.He did everything possible to hurt Sarah and their boys.

Sember had been dating John for 2yrs and she thought he was the one. That is until she came home early to surprise him. Well, the surprise ended up being on her. Sember comes home to find John with another woman. John is another jerk and doesn't think he did anything wrong.

Sember packs her car up and moves in with her best friend Liz. Liz is such a good friend. Every girl has that one friend that is there through good times and the bad times. Liz is that friend for Sember.

Liz talks Sember into going out for the night. Where she literally walks into a fine beautiful man. They don't speak at all. They just stare at each other all night. They don't speak until Sember goes to work and finds out that her boss's grandson who had moved back from New York is indeed the hottie from the bar. None other then Jax Alexander.

Jax & Sember have a instant connection. The problem is Sember has a strict rule: Never mix business with pleasure. But, being around Jax is making that rule blurry. And, she can't find a good reason not to just have fun.

Jax and Sember go out to lunch one afternoon. One very hot and steamy kiss later and Sember is ready to throw her rule off the closest cliff she finds.

Sember gets a phone call from Sarah while at work. Sarah has this lawyer that just doesn't care. He's not doing what is best for Sarah and her boys at all!! Sember wants to do it but knows she is too close to the case. And, doesn't want to hurt Sarah and the case more then it already is. Luckily for her & Sarah Jax takes the case.

Sember and Jax start up a relationship. Sember knows that something is going on with Jax. She's not sure what. But, she's afraid deep down of what it could be. Especially since he won't give her any kind of info on what it could be.

Over the next few weeks things start to take a turn downhill. Anders starts getting more & more erratic. Where Sarah and her boys aren't feeling safe. John shows up to let Sember know that their relationship isn't over. Then, Jax past comes back and comes back strong & desperate to prove a point to Jax.

Now, Jax has to find a way to help Sarah. And, he has to fight to save Sember's life. He will not loose her. Jax never thought he'd get a 2nd chance at love. But, Sember is his chance. He will do whatever it takes to save Sember and do whats best for Sarah.

You'll never know that this is Emerson's first book. She wrote it beautifully. You felt every relationship. It didn't matter if it was Sarah & Sember or Sember & Liz to Sember & Jax. They were all realistic. My heart hurt at times for them all. And, other times I was laughing so hard my eyes would tear.

I honestly can not believe it's based on real life. But, it was. Emerson Shaw wrote it beautifully. I am a fan of hers and can not wait to read what she writes next.

About The Author

Emerson Shaw (1977-present) was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the third born of three girls and had a very happy childhood. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1999 with a Bachelors of Business Administration. After graduating, she built a career in the wine industry. She married her husband in 2004 and had their first son two years later. She sold and studied wine for nearly ten years, but the birth of her second child in 2008 led her to put a hold on her professional life. She quit her job to stay home to raise her children. Her sister had always encouraged her to write, but she thought the publishing industry was nearly impossible to break into. Then, the self-publishing industry began to explode. Emerson's children had gotten older and less dependent just as her sister started going through a difficult family situation. The idea to write a fictional story inspired by her sister's experiences was born. Acts of Desperation is her debut novel.

✯ Michelle Grey's Ovarian Cancer Project: Are You Listening? 'Review'✯

Are You Listening Cover

Synopsis~
Cancer snuck up on me when I least expected it. But I imagine everyone probably feels that way. When I got my diagnosis, I was relatively young and otherwise healthy. I was a busy mom, wife, employee and aspiring author. Priorities shifted, and so did my perspective. Throughout my experience, I sought to become educated and I learned many things – some tangible, some intangible, but all of which I’ll share with you in this quick story. My hope is to further educate and encourage every woman, even if cancer never touches you or anyone you love. ALL proceeds will go to the Vicki Welsh Fund to help in the FIGHT against Ovarian Cancer:
