✯Review✯Work Song by Danielle Allen

Synopsis

When society tries to put you in a box, knock the walls down. –Tati Green

“You have a pretty face” is such a back-handed compliment. It’s like telling me that my face is beautiful, but the rest of me is not.

Despite what society says, my curves are hot.
My love life, on the other hand, is not.

My mom says I’ll never find love because of my weight.

My sister says I’ll never find love because of my personality.

My almost-fiancé says I’ll never find love because I’m incapable of loving anyone.

My mom and sister are full of it, but my ex kind of has a point.

At twenty-seven years old, I’ve never been in love. I date a lot, yet sparks never fly. But when I experienced the heart-pounding, skin tingling feeling for the first time, I didn’t think it would be caused by a guy I’ve never met. And I damn sure didn't think he would end up holding my future in his hands in more ways than one.

Tati has never been in love before. She's been in relationships before. But, never felt that certain spark. With Wes it's different. Talking to Wes is different than any other guy that's ever been in her life. Tati originally called him her "work best friend" then realized she was crushing on him. But, he lives in Cali so it's OK. Until he gets transferred to NY working in the same building. Now, Tati is more confused than ever before.

This was a nice quick read. I loved the back and forth between Tati and Wes. Their flirting whether it was thru emails, texts, phone calls or in person. I loved their "weirdo" "brat" nicknames for each other. It was all really adorable! Wes is the absolute perfect friend and boyfriend. Wes would've done anything for Tati. Including moving to NY to be closer to a woman he fell in love with over emails, texts and late night calls. I loved how he knows he what he wants and isn't afraid of the consequences. Now, Tati is where my blood boiled. She came very close to making me throw my kindle up against the wall closest to me more than once. Yes, in order for her to become a sports writer that means she'd be in a job that is dominated by men. Which is why she never crossed that line with the men she worked with or the athletes who came across her desk. But, Wes was different. She knew it and felt it. Yet, I felt like poor Wes took the brunt of Tati's confused feelings. Even though I understood them and respected for she dealt with her work/personal relationships.

Danielle wrote this book beautifully. This is not my first book by her either. The only other book I've read was Love Found In California which was a novella in a  3 book novella series. I will tell you she shocked me BIG time in this book. I mean it was an "OMG! WTF,did that just happen?!" Yes, I legit yelled that lol. I'm glad I got to read this and am really looking forward to reading another book by her.
